Immortal Detective, Reidou Momiji volume 4 afterword
Afterword
Thank you so much for reading Volume 4 of The Immortal Detective, Reidou Momiji!
The setting has moved away from the school, and with the change in the atmosphere of the cover and subtitle, it feels like we've entered a brand-new season.
Now then, from Volume 2 onwards, this series has adopted a structure where a short story is inserted at the very beginning before moving into the main plot. In Volume 2, it was the cafรฉ, and in Volume 3, it was the horse races.
My intention behind this is to handle small ideas that couldn't quite fit into the main story, as well as to give readers a lighter, easier starting point when they begin the book.
This time around, it was a bite-sized "Art x Locked Room x No-Death Mystery," and I'm quite fond of how it turned out.
As for the main story, I wrote a whodunit starting with the mystery of: How do you kill someone with an invincible ability?
Even within the series, this volume leans much heavier into the "Special Setting/Anomaly Mystery" subgenre.
It might seem like grasping at clouds to solve... but as I wrote in the "Challenge to the Reader," the fun of mystery novels is that even when supernatural abilities are involved, the culprit can still be deduced logically.
From here on are my acknowledgments.
To Miwano Ragu-sensei: Thank you for providing us with national-treasure-tier illustrations once again for this volume. The cover is absolutely stunning... And we even got a hot spring illustration this time! I couldn't be more satisfied!
To my editor, Ichigo-chan-sama: I'm sorry if my constant requests to "add more flair" during our illustration discussions made you think, This isn't a ramen shop, you know! Thank you for everything you always do!
Furthermore, for this volume, we received a recommendation comment from Okura Takahiro-sensei!
In 2026, the year this fourth volume was released, Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway, which Okura-sensei wrote the screenplay for, hit theaters.
It goes without saying that receiving such passionate words of praise for the Immortal Detective series from the screenwriter of Japan's premier detective movie franchise left my heart soaring.
Thank you so very much!
To all the readers, the bookstore clerks across the country, and everyone involved in this project.
The fact that this series is able to continue is entirely thanks to all of you. Thank you!
Well then, I ask for your continued support for The Immortal Detective, Reidou Momiji series!
