Reincarnated as the Mastermind of the Story Volume 2 E-book Bonus Short Story
The Story of the Parents Who Returned to the Village
Having completed their long journey to Clausel, Roy and Mireille returned to their village. The scars of Yelquq’s attack were deeply etched into the village, with the Ashton family’s mansion in particular reduced to near ruins, barely recognizable.
Yet, smiles graced the faces of Roy and Mireille. It wasn’t blind optimism; they were simply relieved to know their son, Ren, was safe.
“Let’s do our best, Mireille.”
“Yes. We need to make sure the village is ready for whenever Ren comes back.”
Thinking of their son, who was healing in far-off Clausel, they resolved to rebuild the village with determination.
“With the kindness of the baron, we’ll make this village so impressive that Ren will be amazed when he returns.”
Mireille nodded firmly.

The reconstruction progressed smoothly. Thanks to Baron Lazard of Clausel, who sent numerous knights and young laborers, the village transformed day by day. Before long, construction began on a new mansion for the Ashton family. The carpenters dispatched by Lazard showcased their remarkable skills, and the new mansion took shape with astonishing speed. Roy worked tirelessly, cutting and hauling timber, contributing not only to the mansion but to other areas of the village in need of restoration.
As spring gave way to early summer, a knight arrived from Clausel, accompanied by a large wagon.
“Hm? That’s a mighty big wagon. Doesn’t look like construction materials…”
One morning, as Roy prepared to dive into another day of reconstruction, he greeted the knights and muttered these words while eyeing the wagon. The knights smiled and replied,
“This is from Lord Ren.”
“…Ren?”
“Indeed. You see—”
Hearing about how Ren was faring in Clausel was a source of daily sustenance for Roy and Mireille, and they had been eagerly anticipating such news.
“Hahaha! That’s just like Ren!”
Ren might even be fighting monsters in Clausel. They had already discussed what to do if that happened, so Roy had no complaints. He was merely surprised—astounded, even—by the fact that Ren had sent magical tools as a gift to his hometown, far exceeding Roy’s expectations.
“Even the baron was taken aback,” the knight added.
“I’ll bet! —Alright, no time to waste! Hey, Mireille!”
Roy called out to his wife in a booming voice and dashed toward the mansion, his face brimming with joy. But an even greater surprise would reach Roy and Mireille’s ears not long after.
One day, a wagon arrived that was more than twice the usual size. The knights who accompanied it wore wry smiles. Mireille, who had been working alongside Roy since morning, noticed the anomaly.
“Dear, aren’t there more wagons than usual?”
“Well, probably just construction materials, right?”
It was hard to believe that everything could be a gift from Ren. However, a knight approached them on horseback, stopping before the couple.
“Good morning.”
“Morning! Looks like a lot of cargo this time. Shall we haul it to the storage area?”
“About that… those aren’t materials.”
“Not materials? Food supplies, then?”
The knight shook his head, still wearing that wry smile.
“Those are all magical tools.”
“—What?”
“Oh my… does that mean they’re from Ren?”
“Indeed, Lady Mireille. As you surmised, they are all gifts from Lord Ren.”
The knight gestured toward the wagons trundling down a wider path nearby.
“There are smaller magical tools, but this time, many are large. For instance, streetlamps and water-purifying magical devices. The latter, when installed at wells, will provide clean water for the villagers, or so Lord Ren believes. Additionally—”
As the knight continued his detailed explanation, Roy, who had been stunned into silence, finally spoke up. The more he heard, the more he realized the immense funds invested in this delivery.
“Wait, wait, wait! How much money did this cost?! Is Ren okay? He’s not pushing himself too hard for our sake, is he?!”
Mireille shared his concern, but the knight reassured them. He explained how Ren had acquired the funds to purchase so many magical tools and recounted recent events in Clausel.
“…And so, Lord Ren defeated two D-rank monsters.”
Moreover, he had done so almost single-handedly. Roy and Mireille exchanged glances, their laughter tinged with tears as they swelled with pride over their son’s accomplishments.
“Good grief… what’s going on? Our boy’s growth knows no bounds!”
“Truly, that child…”
The two gazed at the distant sky, their faces turned toward Clausel, where Ren lived far away. They thought of him fondly, praying that he would continue to live radiant, fulfilling days.
